Jul 25, 2009 · Do not use Tor to torrent. Torrent applications are known to leak connections even when you specify not to. Use a paid VPN if you really want to pirate stuff. Also don't use uTorrent. They've been caught in the past loading their applications with Bitcoin mining software. Using your computer without consent.

BitTorrent clients such as uTorrent write your IP address to the data that's sent to trackers & peers, thus you're effectively anonymously exposing your IP. Not to mention the fact that downloading torrents over the Tor network would be particularly slow, and the fact you'll slow the network itself to a crawl if a couple of people torrent over Tor.

Sending your BitTorrent traffic through the Tor network would overload it even more. It isn't designed to handle such things -- the Tor network has much less capacity than it has users wanting to use it. And since it's zero-sum, every person trying to BitTorrent over Tor means many more people in Syria who can't get to their Facebook pages.
